The Sheriff's Office has personnel assigned to deal with the rising number of traffic complaints from area residents and motorists. These supervisors (one for each shift) are assigned the responsibility of personally contacting each of the complainants about their problem.

Afterward, generally this same supervisor assesses the situation and then assigns a deputy or sometimes several deputies for selective traffic enforcement. A follow up visit then takes place to advise the complainant of the results of the enforcement action. Through this process alone, almost all complainants feel they have received satisfactory consideration towards their specific traffic problem.

The Sheriff's Office has a "Speed Trailer". This unit has a stationary radar device incorporated in a tamper resistant cabinet. It has the ability to display and/or record the speeds of passing motorists. It is portable and it can be deployed virtually anywhere for prolonged periods of time.

The trailer is used at identified high accident rate areas and areas where motorists frequently violate the posted speed limit as a deterrent and reduce the probability of accidents. It also will give us the ability to conduct speed and traffic volume surveys when we receive citizen's complaints.

If you have a traffic complaint in Washington County, you can report this to the Sheriff's Office by telephone or by completing the form found below. The Sheriff's Office focuses mostly on County-owned roads, but also receives complaints on State Highways.
