Patrol Mission Statement

  • To uphold and enforce the laws of the State of Maryland in an impartial manner without favoritism or bias.
  • To support the Constitution of the United States of America and the State of Maryland.
  • To act as guardian of lives and property, to the best of the Sheriff's Office abilities and capabilities, protecting citizens from harm, deception, intimidation, violence and disorder.
  • To live an untainted life which, in all aspects, will reflect honor upon the Sheriff's Office and the profession of law enforcement.

    The Patrol Division is the enforcement branch of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The responsibilities of the Patrol Division include enforcement of traffic and criminal laws, conducting investigations, responding to complaints, providing crime prevention and community oriented programs, and any other service for the safety and welfare of the citizens of Washington County, Maryland.

    Effective August 01, 2002, any Child Sex Offender requiring registration or re-registration MUST contact Lt. Overcash at 240-313-2169, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM to schedule an appointment.

    The Washington County Sheriff's Office is available for finger printing on Friday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Persons needing finger prints for employment or background purposes are required to bring their own finger print cards (provided by their employer). The cost for finger printing is $10.00 per card (cash or money order only, no personal checks are accepted). The Sheriff's Office cannot make any exceptions to this policy.
