POLICE CHAPLAIN PROGRAM
Our Chaplains are not law enforcement officers and have no arrest powers
The Chaplain Program is designed to assist Patrol Deputies in the performance of certain duties.
Our Chaplain currently provides assistance in the following areas:
- Death notification
- Employee counseling
- Victim/witness assistance
- Crisis Intervention
Chaplains are encouraged to ride with Patrol Deputies in order to gain an understanding of police work and are required to:
- learn how to operate the equipment in a police vehicle
- attend an orientation program conducted by the senior chaplain
- attend the Citizen's Police Academy given by the Sheriff's Office within one year of appointment
- abide by all applicable laws and Sheriff's Office policy
A candidate for Chaplain must:
- Be an ordained member of the clergy in good standing
- Maintain high moral standards
- Be able to be involved in departmental training, either as a student or instructor
- Be able to be on call and available to assist Deputies in certain situations
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Sign a release of liability prior to riding in patrol vehicles
